Danville families are set to have a new, one-of-a-kind option for outdoor playtime in town, with the opening of a long-anticipated playground at Oak Hill park planned for next week.

The Danville Town Council and members of the town’s Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission will gather at the site of the new playground that has been under construction since February for a ribbon-cutting ceremony next Wednesday (Aug. 16), with community members invited to attend and be among the first to explore the new equipment.

“The playground at Oak Hill Park incorporates features not found in other Danville parks and includes musical and accessible-play components,” town spokesperson Jenn Starnes said in an announcement on Aug. 4.

The contract budget for the project’s construction was $1,025,000, which includes a wide range of options for children of different developmental stages as well as the unique musical installations that are a first in Danville parks.

The playground consists of two separate areas — one for younger children ages 2 to 5 years old and another for children 5 to 12 years old.

“With musical elements, accessible play stations and opportunities for inter-generational play, the new playground areas represent a significant investment in quality of life for Danville residents,” Starnes said.

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Aug. 16 at the freshly minted playground in Oak Hill Park at 3005 Stone Valley Road.

Correction: A previous version of this story contained the wrong date for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. It is set for Aug. 16. Embarcadero Media regrets the error.
