Sean Christopher White, 33, was arraigned on a 13-count complaint related to Aug. 9, when he allegedly broke into a garage and threatened someone with a hammer, carjacked someone else, then finally stole a landscaper’s van before being arrested.

It began with officers responding at about 1:25 p.m. that day to a report of a burglary in progress on Birch Drive in unincorporated Walnut Creek.

The victim said a man ran into their garage, brandished a hammer and demanded the occupant’s vehicle’s keys. The suspect fled after the victim resisted.

White then allegedly ran to a nearby home, but fled after not being able to enter, and then ran to a parking lot in the 1400 block of Treat Boulevard and carjacked a person sitting in their car.

Police said White then drove to West Holly Street in Walnut Creek where he stole another vehicle identified as a landscaper’s van.

With assistance from the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department, Danville Police Department and Walnut Creek Police Department, deputies found White walking on the trail near West Hookston Road and Contra Costa Boulevard and arrested him.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said White was charged with three attempted carjackings (one with an enhancement for the use of a hammer as a deadly weapon), one count of carjacking, two counts of driving or taking a vehicle without consent, two counts of first-degree burglary where a victim was present, one count of criminal threats with an enhancement for the use of a hammer as a deadly weapon, indecent exposure, vandalism which destroyed or damaged property valued over $400, and receiving stolen property valued over $950.

During his arraignment in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez on Aug. 14, White’s bail was set at $620,000. He’s currently being held in the Martinez Detention Facility.
