I-680 NB closure
Caltrans will be closing a portion of northbound Interstate 680 near the Mission San Jose overpass in Fremont this weekend to perform “critical bridge and pavement work”.
The closure will last from Friday (Aug. 8) at 10 p.m. until Monday (Aug. 11) at 5 a.m., according to the transportation agency. Traffic will be detoured through the Mission Boulevard and Highway 238 off ramp toward eastbound Highway 84.
According to Caltrans, the closure will reduce the “duration and impact of the project” and is necessary to “safely and efficiently complete key construction activities, including full bridge deck resurfacing and approach slab repairs”.
“This phase of work involves heavy machinery and the resurfacing of the entire bridge deck,” the agency stated. “This work must be performed without live traffic to ensure workers and motorists safety.”
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes.
CHP checkpoint in Livermore
The California Highway Patrol and Livermore Police Department will be conducting a sobriety and driver license checkpoint Friday night between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. in an undisclosed area in Livermore.
According to a CHP press release, motorists will see signs advising them of the checkpoint. Once they are in the lane, drivers will be explained the purpose of the checkpoint and either be cleared or not cleared to go.
“We are sending a clear message to all individuals who are considering mixing alcohol and or drugs with driving – it is not worth the risk,” CHP Commander Gerardo Serrato stated in the press release. “Public safety is our top priority.”
The specific location of the checkpoint will be provided to Bay City News and the CHP Traffic Management Center roughly two hours before it starts.
AI Summit
Innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and civic leaders are being invited to attend the third annual Tri-Valley AI Summit, a Startup Tri-Valley event organized by the city of Dublin and i-GATE, a nonprofit looking to build a startup community in the region.
Startup Tri-Valley is an initiative led by multiple Tri-Valley cities — along with Lawrence Livermore and Sandia national laboratories — that aims to grow the region’s startup economy.
This year’s event “AI: The Catalyst for Change in Industries,” will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping sectors like life sciences and energy.
“AI is transforming how we live and work, and this summit is a vital step in ensuring our communities are not only a part of that transformation but are leading the way,” Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu said in the press release.
The event is Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Patelco Credit Union corporate headquarters in Dublin.
