Welcome to the Playbook!

Each week the Playbook will bring you a story about something related to the current high school sports taking place locally. With 40-plus years of covering the East Bay Athletic League, the Playbook knows the landscape of local sports and will bring you the ins and outs, as well as the good (and the bad) of prep sports!

The Playbook is delivered each Tuesday into your inbox! It’s free — you just register to get it. Be sure to share with the players and parents of your team so they can get the Playbook each week too! They can do it at danvillesanramon.com.

The Big Picture gives you the low down on the EBAL Swimming and Diving Meet, letting you know who won each event. This week a loaded EBAL contingent will take part in the NCS Playoffs. Also, we take a week at week one of the NCS Volleyball playoffs.

EBAL Power Rankings saw some movement in the boys’ volleyball rankings as it was business as usual, with any team being able to win or lose each match. Who came out on top of the EBAL playoffs?

What to Watch has the schedule for the first week of the NCS Volleyball playoffs, as well as crucial baseball and softball games in the last week of the regular season.

Got a great story idea for something? Don’t hesitate to let me know at acesmag@aol.com!

Who won league crowns in swimming, boys’ volleyball

The postseason has begun for the East Bay Athletic League, including the boys’ volleyball tournament and the swimming and diving championships.

Power Rankings as of May 5.

EBAL BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

1. Amador Valley (23-10, 9-4): The Dons fall to Foothill 3-1 in the regular season but then rally to beat San Ramon Valley and De La Salle for the EBAL Playoff title.

2. San Ramon Valley (21-7, 10-3): Beat Monte Vista 3-0 to end the regular season, then fell to Amador Valley 3-2 in the first round of the EBAL playoffs.

3. De La Salle (22-12, 10-3): Beat California in the regular season finale, then Foothill 3-2 in the first round of the league playoffs. Fell 3-2 to Amador Valley in the playoff finals,

4. Foothill (22-11, 9-4): The Falcons knock off Amador Valley 3-1 for the second time this season to take the Pleasanton title, as well as top seed from the Valley, but then fall 3-2 to De La Salle in the first round of the NCS playoffs.

5. Dublin (18-7, 8-5): Ended the regular season with a 3-1 win over Dougherty Valley. Should have a berth in the NCS playoffs.

The rest: Granada (16-10, 6-7), Livermore (19-14, 5-8), Dougherty Valley (7-17, 2-11), California (11-14, 4-9), Monte Vista (2-13, 2-11).

EBAL BASEBALL

1. Granada (18-4, 10-1): The Matadors keep the ball rolling with a pair of wins over Granada last week. Close with a pair against cross-town rival Livermore.

2. De La Salle (18-3, 9-1): The Spartans have run off eight wins after beating Amador Valley and Dougherty Valley. Guessing there are some postseason matchups with Granada again this year.

3. Foothill (17-5, 7-4): The Falcons score 32 runs in a pair of wins over Livermore as the offense is cruising along.

4. Livermore (13-9, 5-6): The Cowboys pitching gets battered about in a pair of losses to Foothill. Doesn’t get easier this week with a pair of against Granada on the slate to close out the season.

5. San Ramon Valley (12-9, 6-5): The Wolves climb back into the top five with a pair of wins against California. They close out the regular season with a two-game set against Monte Vista/
