Klawuhn oversaw the Field Operations Bureau, managing a staff of more than 375 in patrol, investigations, and special operations, including services for the contract communities of Danville, Lafayette and Orinda, according to a city press release.

She succeeds Acting Chief Matt Avery who will be retiring in December, the city said. Cmdr. Jeremy Crone will serve as interim chief until Klawuhn begins duty in mid-January.

She began her public safety career in 2001 with the sheriff’s office, where she rose through the ranks from criminalist to deputy sheriff, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain before being promoted to assistant sheriff.

Klawuhn holds a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of California, Davis, and a master’s degree in law enforcement from the University of San Diego, the city said.
