A Danville man remained in custody as of Tuesday evening after being arrested early Monday at the conclusion of a standoff with police at a home in the southeast of town near Bay Club Crow Canyon.

Timothy Bancroft was taken into custody at the Martinez Detention Facility following his arrest, police said. As of Tuesday evening, he was being held in the West County Detention Facility in Martinez on a $100,000 bail.

Charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm were filed by District Attorney Diana Becton’s office Tuesday. Bancroft is set to be arraigned Wednesday at 1:35 p.m. in Contra Costa County Superior Court.

Officers with the Danville Police Department arrived at the scene on the 1900 block of St. Norbert Dr.  just before 2 a.m. Monday morning, with police saying they heard gunshots coming from the home upon their arrival.

Neighboring residents were issued a shelter-in-place warning through the county’s community warning system as police demanded that the man exit the home, which he ultimately did.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact Investigation Sergeant Dan Lynch at 925-314-3700.
