A motorist was accused of driving under the influence after his car rear-ended a marked Lafayette police vehicle that was stopped for traffic.
A 67-year-old Walnut Creek man was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on two felony allegations: driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher, police said Saturday on social media.
He was being held in lieu of $200,000 bail. However, a Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report indicated that he was released on bail bond Saturday.
The incident occurred about 2:18 p.m. Friday when the police car was stopped in traffic on the 3600 block of Mount Diablo Boulevard, according to the Police Department.
A driver drove into the back of the police vehicle, damaging its rear end and causing major damage to the front of his own vehicle, according to police.
The impact pushed the police car into a vehicle in front of it, with minor damage. The collision also caused a small fire in the trunk of the patrol vehicle, police said.
Two Lafayette officers and the civilian driver were treated at a local hospital and released, police said.
