Wente eyes sale of at least 1,500 acres in Livermore Valley

Wente Family Vineyards is considering the sale of at least 1,500 acres of land in and near the Livermore city limits.

The majority of said property was up for negotiation with city officials during closed session of the Livermore City Council meeting on July 27. 

The 1,500-plus acres considered for sale is about staying open to “opportunities”, Wente Bros. chief operating officer and board member Karl Wente told Livermore Vine.

Wente Bros. does business as Wente Family Vineyards or Wente Family Estates.

Karl Wente is also the vice president and vice chairman of the board of Wente Land & Cattle Company and operating manager for Sachau LLC.

According to the July 27 agenda, negotiating teams were set to discuss 15 parcels. A few of the parcels neighbor The Course at Wente Vineyards, however, select parcels were not accessible on the Alameda County Assessor’s Office parcel viewer online.

“The instructions to the City’s negotiators will concern price and terms of payment,” the agenda states.

In addition to the potential sale of land to the city, Wente Bros. is in the process of selling an approximately 244-acre property located 6741 Tesla Road. An online listing shows the $7,950,000 sale as pending.

The site was previously slated for the Beyer Ranch Winery project, a development that was set to feature six commercial winery facilities, six residences and agricultural areas.

The Alameda County Planning Commission approved an application for the project at its Feb. 5, 2018 meeting. Mike Callahan and Wente Brothers were the project applicants, according to the county’s staff report in 2018. 

As for the parcels up for negotiation with Livermore, city officials confirmed that there was no additional information to share because there were no reportable actions out of closed session.
