While the most recent major earthquake in the Bay Area was in 1989 and associated with scenes from San Francisco, the San Ramon Valley is also situated along active fault lines, which residents can learn about in the Museum of the San Ramon Valley’s virtual program on Feb. 20. Earthquake discussion

The Museum of the San Ramon Valley’s next virtual program is set to provide information on the fault lines running through the San Ramon Valley and the inner workings of earthquakes overall from geologist David Schwartz.

“We live in earthquake country and this is a great opportunity to understand the science and the history of earthquakes,” said MSRV spokesperson John Keenan in an announcement Wednesday. “An informative and understandable program on a topic of great importance.”

The talk is scheduled for Feb. 20 at 11:30 a.m. More information and registration is available here.

DeSaulnier town hall

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier’s (D-Concord) next town hall is set to focus on the newly rebranded Department of Government Efficiency and Elon Musk’s abrupt involvement in the federal government in recent weeks, following what DeSaulnier called an “overwhelming response” to his previous town hall about preparing for the incoming administration.

“The Administration, led by unelected billionaire and DOGE head Elon Musk, is ‘flooding the zone’ with actions that threaten programs that tens of millions of Americans rely on, federal workers’ livelihoods, important institutions like the Department of Education, and immigrant & LGBTQ+ communities,” DeSaulnier said in an announcement Wednesday.

“We knew these actions were coming, and I remain committed to upholding my oath of office to our Constitution and to representing the will of the people of California’s 10th Congressional District,” he continued.

The event is scheduled for Feb. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Soda Activity Center at St. Mary’s College in Moraga. More information and registration is available here.
