Student artist submissions
The town of Danville is seeking young creatives for two different student art opportunities.
Middle and high school students, including graduating seniors, are invited to submit original short films that are 10 minutes long or less, produced on budgets of $100 or less, and with a cast of student actors for the upcoming Student Film Festival set for Aug. 1.
Students can submit their works in person via a flash drive along with completed applications by 5 p.m., July 11, at the Village Theatre and Art Gallery.
Student artists are also being sought for this year’s community piano program. Submissions consist of full-color sketches of proposed designs for the public art project, due by May 9 at 10 p.m. More information is available here.
Eggstravaganza
Danville is gearing up for the town’s annual Eggstravaganza celebration set for Easter weekend.
The event includes egg hunts, arts and crafts opportunities, face painting, and photo opportunities with the Spring Bunny.
Local businesses will also be on hand, offering treats and promotions to attendees, with participants encouraged to visit local downtown businesses as part of the celebration.
Two sessions of age-based egg hunts are set to be available, first from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. then from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is scheduled for Saturday (April 19) at the Danville Community Center. More information and registration is available here.
Sheep shearing day
Forest Home Farm is set to host its annual sheep shearing day next weekend, with the longstanding annual event serving as a marker of the spring season in the San Ramon Valley and a nod to the region’s agricultural history.
Hosted by the San Ramon Historic Foundation, the event offers insight into the process behind wool production with a live demonstration, as well as arts and crafts and other hands-on activities.
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 at Forest Home Farm in San Ramon.
More information is available here.
580/680 interchange survey
Care to share your thoughts on perhaps the Tri-Valley’s No. 1 commuting nemesis?
The Alameda County Transportation Commission and Caltrans have opened an online survey about the I-580/I-680 interchange so the agencies can “better understand the challenges” associated with the freeways’ merger in Pleasanton and Dublin.
“Our early work shows that congestion and a high concentration of lane changes by drivers using on- and off-ramps in the vicinity of the interchange are factors that impact safety. The goal of our effort is to identify short-term solutions to reduce these issues and make the interchange safer,” officials said.
The survey, expected to take five minutes to complete, is available through May 2 at surveymonkey.com/r/580-680-interchange.
San Ramon budget workshop video
The San Ramon City Council hosted its first budget workshop for the upcoming fiscal year this week, which included discussions on the city’s ongoing deficit and efforts to address it in the current fiscal year’s budget via millions of dollars in budget cuts and the passage of Measure N, the 1% sales tax increase that voters approved in last year’s election and which went into effect April 1.
A recording of the meeting is available here. The second budget workshop is scheduled for Wednesday (April 23).
