New red curbs

The Town of Danville is installing new red curbs throughout town with the goal of complying with a newly effective “daylighting” law from the state.

Red curbs are set to be painted over the next two weeks at the following locations:

*Railroad Avenue and Love Lane

*Hartz Avenue and Railroad Avenue

* Rose Street and East Linda Mesa Avenue

* Railroad Avenue and West Linda Mesa Avenue

* Mid-segment on Railroad Avenue, between West Linda Mesa Avenue and West Prospect Avenue

* Railroad Avenue and West Prospect Avenue

* Railroad Avenue and Church Street

* Hartz Avenue and Church Street

* Hartz Avenue and School Street

* Front Street and East Prospect Avenue

* Front Street in front of the Village Theatre

* Front Street in front of the Community Center

Congressional App Challenge

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) has announced the start of his district’s Congressional App Challenge.

“Highlighting the importance of STEM education is critical in our rapidly evolving world,” DeSaulnier said in a press release Tuesday. “The Congressional App Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for young people to hone these skills and to demonstrate their ingenuity. I’m looking forward to once again seeing CA-10’s innovative spirit on full display during the 2025 competition.”

Submissions are now open through Oct. 30 at 9 a.m. More information and registration is available here.

Trivia Night fundraiser

Tickets are available now for the first-ever Trivia Night fundraiser benefiting the nonprofit Embarcadero Media Foundation’s East Bay Division, which includes the Pleasanton Weekly, Livermore Vine and DanvilleSanRamon. 

“Test your knowledge, have fun and support a great cause, us!” EMF-EB officials said. “Plus, raffle prizes, a new Support Local Journalism mug and the opportunity to meet the people behind the bylines.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. next Thursday (June 12) at 3 Steves Winery, 5700 Greenville Road in Livermore wine country. The game, hosted by Nancy and Jeff Lewis of Home Brew Trivia, will follow from 7-8:30 p.m.

Foothill alum becomes youngest self-made female billionaire

Tech entrepreneur Lucy Guo, who graduated from Foothill High School in 2012, has been in international headlines in recent weeks after Forbes crowned the 30-year-old as the youngest self-made female billionaire ever, surpassing Taylor Swift effective in April. 

With a net worth projected at $1.3 billion as of this week, according to Forbes, Guo has amassed most of her wealth from her co-founding stake in Scale AI. She now runs the content and influencer platform Passes that she created in 2022.

Schoolhouse Soiree

The annual Schoolhouse Soiree fundraiser is returning this year at the Tassajara One Room School, celebrating the past, present and future of education in the San Ramon Valley.

“Anticipate a one-of-a-kind evening, blending casual charm with an elegant ambiance,” event organizers said in an announcement last month. “This event will take place al fresco, amidst the picturesque grounds encircling the Tassajara School House, also known as the One Room School House, situated at 1650 Finley Road in Danville. This historic schoolhouse served as an educational hub for four generations of San Ramon Valley children, spanning from 1889 to 1946.”

The event is set to feature a tour of the historic schoolhouse, live music, museum artifacts on display, and raffle prizes in addition to dinner and drinks, with proceeds benefiting the Museum of the San Ramon Valley. It is scheduled for 5 p.m. June 21 at 1650 Finley Rd. in Danville. Tickets and more information are available here.
