Danville’s longtime director of recreation, arts and community services is set to take on a new role down south, with the city of San Ramon announcing his appointment as its next director of parks and community services.

Henry Perezalonso is set to begin leading the department in San Ramon effective next month, marking the end of a 13+ year tenure with the Town of Danville.

“I’m excited to have this opportunity to serve the community I live in and to be joining such a great team, especially those in the Parks and Community Services Department,” Perezalonso said in a press release from the city of San Ramon Wednesday. “Let the adventure begin!”

Prior to coming to the San Ramon Valley, Perezalonso served as a supervisor and coordinator in the city of Mountain View’s recreation department for more than a decade, and in the U.S. Marine Corps for more than a decade prior to that. He holds a masters degree in hospitality, recreation and tourism from CSU East Bay.

Perezalonso is credited in this week’s press release for his work in Danville including playing an “instrumental role” in developing and implementing the Parks, Recreation, and Arts Strategic Plan and the Age-Friendly Roadmap, and establishing the town’s Arts District.

Perezalonso currently serves on San Ramon’s Open Space Committee and its Futbol Club Board, as well as the boards of Leadership San Ramon Valley.

“We are thrilled to welcome Henry as our new Parks and Community Services Director,” City Manager Steven Spedowfski said in the press release. “His leadership and vision will be invaluable in enhancing our parks, programs, and services for the San Ramon community.”

Perezalonso will be taking over the role from current Parks and Community Services Director Kathi Heimann starting July 14.
