The San Ramon City Council is set to begin public discussions and considerations in the budgeting process for the upcoming fiscal year.

While few other details on the April 15 meeting are available, the event marks the beginning of the budgeting process for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which comes on the heels of a scaled back budget approved for the current fiscal year amid a $17.6 million deficit discovered during last year’s budgeting process.

That deficit, and the $8.6 million in cuts that were approved for the current fiscal year, went on to be central to discussions of the 1% parcel tax increase approved by voters in November that went into effect at the start of this month, which raised the city’s sales tax to 9.75%.

While the approval of Measure N was one piece of good news related to the city’s budget, it was proposed as one of several ways of seeking to increase the city’s revenue and reduce its spending in the face of a potential ongoing and growing deficit.

The San Ramon City Council is set to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 15). The agenda is available here.
