The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to review and consider approving two murals that would aim to showcase local landmarks at the Market Place Shopping Center.
The proposed public art installation comes to the commission after review, feedback, and approval by the city’s Architectural Review Board and Arts Advisory Committee, both of which are recommending approval by the Planning Commission after several months of discussion.
In 1998, the city required the Market Place Shopping Center to include a public art installation as part of its expansion at that time. The original tile artwork placed at the time has since been removed. The property owner submitted an application for the two proposed murals to replace the former installation last year.
Both murals would be on the building currently occupied by Trader Joe’s, with an image of Mount Diablo proposed for the building’s east side and an image of the recently-completed Iron Horse Trail overcrossing over Bollinger Canyon Road on the building’s south side.
The two murals would also include informational plaques about the landmarks they represent, with QR codes to additional information.
The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 5). The agenda is available here.
