The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to discuss a second affordable housing project that could be on the horizon for the city as part of the redevelopment of the former Chevron headquarters at the south end of the Bishop Ranch neighborhood.

Representatives from Eden Housing and Sunset Development are set to join commissioners for a study session Tuesday on a proposed 100-unit affordable housing complex as part of the mixed-use Orchards project that is aimed at rounding out and complimenting the latter’s vision of redeveloping Bishop Ranch into a centralized downtown neighborhood.

The upcoming discussion comes as application material is under review by the city for the four-story development that would include parking and a childcare center on the ground floor, with prices designated as affordable for households making 30% to 80% of the Area Median Income.

“Consistent with current practice for SB 330 applications, the proposed Study Session provides the Applicant the opportunity to share their project vision with the Planning Commission early in the review process,” Associate Planner Analisa Mirzad wrote in a staff report.

The project is proposed for a 1.85-acre site at the former Chevron Park campus at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Road, which was re-purchased by Sunset in 2022.

The study session will be informational only, with no decision set to be made by commissioners at the current stage. The city is set to determine whether application materials are complete by Nov. 20.

The application process for the new project has kicked off in the wake of progress on another 200-unit affordable housing project from Eden Housing just to the north of the Bollinger Canyon site at 2453 Camino Ramon, which was approved by the city last month.

The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 4). The agenda is available here

In other business, commissioners will hold a public hearing and consider a vote on a resolution that would transfer affordable units that were part of the proposal for the 190-unit Bartlett project slated for Bishop Ranch 7 to the Eden Housing project on Camino Ramon.
