The Mustang Rampage Under 11 Girls Soccer Team was lauded by the Town Council recently for winning the CYSA State Cup Championship.
“It’s a unique group,” Coach Joe Owen said of his team. “The consistent perseverance, game in and game out, their love of the game. They train three days a week, with games either one or two times on the weekend.”
In its regular season, team members scored 160 goals and only allowed opponents to score eight goals against them, ending the regular season with 41 wins and eight ties. The team outscored opponents in the eight-game run to the championship in State Cup, 26-1.
Team members include Stephanie Amack, Jill Anderson, Lauren Benner, Madison Bickel, Darlene Dang, Mandy Davis, Cori Davis, Shannon Hennessy, Morgan Jong, Quinn McLaughlin, Lucy O’Leary, Sami Schrakamp, Katie Strazza, Brynne Terry and Allie Torru.
“Our season this year ran 10 months,” Owen said, “and over 10 months they never once showed they were tired of playing. They’re a great bunch.” He continues to coach the team, now playing Under-12, with training starting May 3.
The Town Proclamation also saluted coaches Owen and Hoan Dang and the committed group of parents for the outstanding achievement.
“The thing that is cool is for the U11 girls, State Cup is the top,” Owen added. Other Mustang teams went on to Nationals.
U12s and U13s both won State cup and move on to Regionals in Colorado in June, said Owen.
