The Monte Vista Lady Mustangs beat Pleasanton rival Foothill High on the tennis courts Oct. 25 to go 10-0 and clinch the East Bay Athletic League title. Monte Vista had two matches left but the title was already theirs as a result of beating Foothill twice.

“We’ve battled back and forth between Foothill and us but we’ve dominated the last four years,” said Patty Gross, who has coached the Mustangs for 13 years. “We’ve had a really good team.”

The Mustangs went on to shut out Amador Valley, 9-0, last week, and beat San Ramon Valley, 7-2, on Tuesday.

This is the second straight EBAL title for Monte Vista. The lady Mustangs will now set their sights on winning the North Coast Section tournament, which begins Nov. 8.

“We won NCS last year against Foothill in the finals,” said Gross. “We need to take advantage of our strength and depth right now and try to make history with a repeat of NCS championship.”

Team members are Mia Giovanetti and Vanessa Lunardi in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively; Andrea Waitrovich, Joelle Luedeke, Allison Moulthrop, Krissy Luecht, Elena Cadet, Sheena Chaudhuri, Hayley Blake, Chelsea Chandler, Natalie Sarkisian, Paige Pier, Laura Guier and Courtney Monheit. The assistant coach is Leslie Blake.
