Anything can happen and usually does when Monte Vista and San Ramon play against each other in any sport. When the Mustangs and Wolves do battle, it is often a close and competitive contest as the cross-town rivals face off. In a hard fought soccer game Jan. 17, the lady Mustangs beat the Wolves 1-0. Melissa Buich scored the winning goal with two minutes left in the game to seal the victory.

Two days later, Monte Vista extended its record to 14-3-2 and 6-0-1 in the EBAL by beating California 4-0. Melissa Buich and Courtney Jones scored two goals each for the victory.

The Wolves rebounded by beating Foothill 2-1 and extended their record to 15-2-1 and 6-1 in the EBAL and a close second place behind the Mustangs. Bria Park scored the winning goal for the Wolves.

The Mustangs boys soccer team continued to ride high and beat San Ramon 2-0 on Jan. 18. This was the first loss for the Wolves in the EBAL. Jeff Penna and Chris Beville scored the winning goals for the Mustangs. The Mustangs followed up this victory with a 3-0 win over California last Friday. Monte Vista is now 4-2-1 in the EBAL and 13-4-1 overall. The Wolves followed up the loss against Monte Vista with a tie against Foothill 1-1 to go 4-1-1 in the EBAL and 12-4-1 overall.

Boys basketball

The San Ramon boys basketball team ran its record to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the EBAL with a victory over Amador Valley 61-53 last Friday. Brandon Adams led the Wolves with 22 points.

Monte Vista ran its record to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the EBAL with a victory over Granada 66-42. Ben Wilson and Cory Higgins led the Mustangs with 14 points each.

Girls basketball

The lady Wolves girls basketball team extended its record to 4-0 in the EBAL and 13-5 overall with a win last Friday over Amador Valley 55-40. The Wolves are in first place in the EBAL. Ashley Cheung led the Wolves with 16 points.

The lady Mustangs ran their record to 3-0 in the EBAL and 12-5 overall with a win over Granada 54-40. The Mustangs are a half game behind the Wolves in the race for league champion.
