The Danville HOOTS Baseball Team won the recent Connie Mack Northern California Championship held at James Logan High School in Fremont. Coming off a third-place finish with a 7-1 record at the National Wood Bat Championship held in Marietta, Ga., during the first week of July, the HOOTS became the first team to achieve this milestone in local amateur baseball.
Winning five straight games in the Northern California Tournament earned the team a berth at the Connie Mack Western Regional Tournament held at UC Irvine. Eight teams will compete for a trip to the Connie Mack World Series for the National Championship held in Farmington, N.M.
The HOOTS won close games for the Northern California Championship but dominated Santa Rosa Connie Mack in the Championship game to win 11-1. Steve Cunha of Monte Vista High School received All Tournament Recognition. The HOOTS team comprises top players from local high schools; its season record is 38 wins and 8 losses.
