The Foothill High girls’ volleyball team won its final two games of the regular season to finish 12-1 in East Bay Athletic League play and the No. 2 seed in the league playoffs.

Foothill also celebrated coach Dusty Collins’ 30th season leading the Falcons with a ceremony honoring Collins.

The week opened with a 25-20, 25-14, 25-16 win over Dublin.

The highlights came from Ilayda Caglar (20 kills, 10 digs), Olivia So (15 digs, 14 service points), Makenzie Bulaon (18 assists, 4 digs), Kait Vogel (11 digs, 10 service points, 4 kills) and Addie Boeschenstein (5 kills, 3 digs).

Before the final match – against Amador Valley – Collins was presented a plaque in a ceremony that featured Foothill principal Sebastian Bull and included the presence of former Foothill players.

In the match, the Falcons got a hard-fought 25-12, 26-28, 25-21, 25-13 win over the Dons.

This time the highlights came from Caglar (season-high 26 kills, 21 digs), Sewa Adesuyi-fasuyi (season-high 11 kills, 5 digs), Shreya Patel (season-high 28 assists, 10 service points), Ale Sioco (16 digs, 8 service points) and Sahej Toor (7 kills, 2 blocks).

EBAL playoff action this week!

It should be an action-packed week for the Amador Valley girls’ flag football team and the Foothill girls’ volleyball group.

In flag football, Amador, by virtue of their undefeated EBAL season, will host the one-day tournament and is the top seed.

The Dons were set to take on No. 4 seeded Livermore at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Amador beat Livermore 19-6 on Sept. 29.

San Ramon Valley, whom Amador beat 13-12, scoring on the final play of the game, is the No. 2 seed and will face off against No. 3 Carondelet at 6 p.m.

Barring a major upset, the Dons and the Wolves would square off for the title at 8 p.m.

The numbers the two sides are putting up are frightening.

Amador Valley quarterback Riley Harrington has thrown for 3,658 yards and 37 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. Reese Fogarty has hauled in 101 passes for 1,299 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Sydney Nissen is the rushing leader with 618 yards and 11 touchdowns. Harrington has added 508 yards and 12 touchdowns.

For San Ramon Valley, Gia Ryan has thrown for 3,956 yards and 51 touchdowns with only 11 picks. Tatum Prindiville has 93 catches for 1,193 yards and 14 touchdowns. Molly Gates has added 12 touchdowns on 47 catches.

Ryan leads the team in rushing as well with 329 yards and four scores.

On defense both teams boast some eye-popping numbers as well.

For Amador, Summer Brown has 103 flag pulls, with Isabella Beatty adding 102. Sabella Stout has 65 pulls with 48 of them resulting in a loss.

The Wolves’ defense is led by Prindiville, who has 100 flag pulls, with Emma Kozak recording 93 pulls, 47 that have gone for a loss.

The only meeting between the two this year was a spirited game to say the least, and should they meet in the finals, it figures to be again.

Over on the volleyball court, the top three teams in the EBAL – Monte Vista, Foothill and San Ramon Valley – have separated themselves from the rest of the EBAL.

Monte Vista is the top seed for the playoffs and is 26-4 overall and went through league 13-0. The Mustangs will host No. 4 Carondelet in one semifinal.

Foothill (22-9, 12-1) is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed San Ramon Valley (22-6, 10-3) at Amador Valley.

It’s hard to imagine Monte Vista losing in the semifinals, so figure the Mustangs will meet the winner of Foothill-SRV for the title. The Falcons beat the Wolves 3-0 earlier this year, but the score is deceiving as all three sets were extremely close and could have gone either way.
