Drivers in San Ramon this week are being asked to prepare for a detour and delays as a major stretch of road in the city’s central core is closed for several days to accommodate construction on the Iron Horse Regional Trail overcrossing that is aimed at offering pedestrians and bicyclists a means of bypassing the busy intersection when it debuts next year.

Bollinger Canyon Road between Camino Ramon and Market Place is scheduled for a full closure starting Wednesday (Nov. 6) and extending through Saturday (Nov. 9) as workers take to the area to install the major base structure of the overcrossing, which is then set to be visible ahead of the completion of the project next year.

“During the road closure period, construction activities will be taking place that require special safety measures, since workers will be using large cranes to lift heavy deck panels of the overcrossing into place. It will not be safe for vehicles to drive under the over-roadway work,” city officials said in a notice last month.

Detours will be in place to divert traffic from the area during construction, with San Ramon City Hall and the Marketplace Shopping Center to continue to be accessible via westbound Bollinger Canyon Road.

  1. I cannot believe they are closing down one of the busiest streets in the valley at the same time Crow Canyons Road is a mess. Unbelievable.
