All eastbound lanes of Interstate-580 near Isabel Avenue in Livermore are temporarily closed as police negotiate this afternoon with an individual on the overpass who is experiencing a mental health crisis, according to authorities.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes such as SR-84 into Livermore or Interstate-680 to SR-4, as emergency transportation operations are currently in place, according to CHP-Dublin’s post on social media.
“Officers are actively negotiating with the individual, and personnel from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department are assisting at the scene,” Livermore Police Department officials told Livermore Vine just before 3 p.m. Friday.
LPD responded at about 1 p.m. Friday (May 8) to the Isabel Avenue overpass above the eastbound lanes of I-580 for an individual who climbed over the fence.
“There will be a significant police and emergency personnel presence, and motorists should expect traffic delays while the incident remains active,” LPD officials said.
