Since announcing the arrival of the Danville Weekly in the community, we have been receiving phone calls and questions from residents. Many of them have the same theme: What is our agenda?
We want to make it clear from the start that we do not have an agenda. We aim to provide an understanding of the community for our readers not available in other newspapers. We plan to raise and comment on local issues and also to serve as a forum for our readers to express their views.
The Editorial is one of the most important features of our newspaper. We hope that over the coming months you will turn to us to see just what positions we have taken on a local issue. Are we coming from the “left”? The “right”? Neither. We will study the issues carefully as they unfold and make up our minds independently, based on the facts as we see them. We hope our positions will be impossible to predict, but we promise you they will be taken only after careful consideration of all the facts in a case.
Our strength is our integrity. We will be asking good questions, and we will be attempting to open a dialogue in the community so that you will care what position we take. It will be developed through our conversations with you and our sincere desire to be objective. We will listen to all sides and then determine what conclusions we will present on the issues. We hope you will be part of this as we welcome your letters, phone calls and perspective.
It is our intention to reflect the community of the Danville area. As we become better acquainted with the community, the Danville Weekly is committed to meeting its newspaper needs.
So stay tuned! This is going to be your newspaper, presented through our eyes and ears.
