This charming garden in Diablo is part of the third annual Garden Tour and Faire being sponsored by Athenian School Parent Association tomorrow, May 7.

“I call it ‘my little carriage house,'” said homeowner Kay Weatherford, who said they just completed the garden feature in November.

Last Saturday volunteers from the association made a preliminary tour of the gardens being open to the public tomorrow, since they will be working that day guiding visitors.

The fair part of the day is free and is being held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 75-acre Athenian campus, 2100 Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd. in Danville. There will be unique arts, crafts and plants plus informative lectures, said parent publicity coordinator Maria Streifer. The garden tour is $35 and includes eight gardens, including the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek. Others are in Diablo, Alamo, Orinda and Berkeley. Since it is a self-guided tour, participants may visit one or all of them at their own speed.

“The theme, ‘Art in the Garden,’ is reflected in the variety of styles and composition seen throughout all of the gardens,” said Streifer.

Tickets for the garden tour are limited, she noted, and will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. at the fair. A barbecue lunch will also be available at the fair. The day will benefit the Athenian School.

Tomorrow is also the day for the Garden Tour sponsored by the Danville-Alamo branch of the American Association of University Women. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit the Educational Foundation for schools in Alamo, Danville and San Ramon, and features gardens in those areas. Tickets, which cost $25, may be purchased tomorrow at 11 a.m. at 155 Remington in Danville, one of the first homes on the self-guided tour. There is no limit on the number. Call Janine Lappin at 872-9545 for more information.

Want to add to your own garden? The Danville-Alamo Garden club is joining the annual Sycamore neighborhood garage sale tomorrow, May 7, to offer hundreds of their plants at bargain prices. It’s a chance to purchase heirloom tomatoes, herbs, flowers, succulents and more for summer gardens and they have all been begun by experts. The sale is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 732 Old Creek Road. Watch for the DAGC signs.
