The Danville Surburban Housewives in their “obnoxiously green” hats walk every Friday morning on the Iron Horse Trail, in preparation for the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in San Francisco on July 9-10. They’re determined, they’re organized, and they’re fun as they talk, talk, talk on the trail while getting into shape. “It’s amazing how much 14 women can talk,” said Caroline White, the captain. She started the group with some friends, then their friends joined until they had 14 enthusiastic women, including Christa Bakarich, Cathy Dunn, Terry Griffin, Keven Jaros, Cheri Kirschenheuter, Kristin Munk, Melinda Malin, Shaunna Mattson, Colleen Negi, Cindy Schmid, Candice Stone, Sue Turley, Teresa Wells and Caroline White. Each member has to raise $1,800 to join the walk but this group has a goal of raising $25,200, which will go toward breast cancer awareness and education; screening and diagnosis, treatment, support services; and scientific research. To help them raise their goal, donate online at www.avonwalk.org or send a check payable to “Avon Walk for Breast Cancer” to Caroline White, P.O. Box 72, Danville 94526.
