Have a car and want to help?
Many Danville and other area seniors need rides to appointments, stores and special events, as well as to the Seniors’ Club that meets on Mondays at the Veterans Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seniors bring a bag lunch, and coffee, tea and rolls are provided.
Christine Mabry, program coordinator for the town of Danville, asks anyone who can become a permanent Monday driver one or more times a month to call her at 314-3476. Occasional and substitute drivers are also needed.
Volunteer candidates must complete a one-time Town of Danville Volunteers Application and Waiver Form with driver’s license information as well as provide an updated Department of Motor Vehicles printout each July 1.
After being accepted and receiving an assignment, volunteers call their riders Sunday or early Monday to confirm the need for a ride, pick them up as agreed – usually between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. – and deliver them to the Veterans Hall, 400 Hartz Ave. Drivers usually return to the Vets Hall by 2 p.m. to pick up their riders and take them home. When unable to drive, volunteers are expected to contact another driver to trade days.
For more information, call Mabry or e-mail her at cmabry@ci.danville.ca.us.
