Anyone wishing to gather on Veterans Day next Friday to honor the country’s veterans is invited to attend the annual ceremony hosted by the Veterans of the San Ramon Valley. It begins at 10:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at Community Presbyterian Church in Danville.

“The last three years it’s been at CPC and it seems to work out well,” said Mac McCuskey, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 75. “There’s a large seating capacity, a nice big parking lot – and you’re indoors.”

In prior years the event was held outside near the Veterans Hall or in front of the library but it’s much better indoors, said McCuskey.

Danville Mayor Mike Doyle will make opening remarks. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-52, stationed in Germany at a supply and maintenance base for the Berlin Airlift.

Doyle started the Danville Veterans Day celebration about 10 years ago although he did not take part in planning this year’s event. “It’s a great time for the community to honor veterans,” he said.

Sponsoring groups are the VFW Post 75, American Legion Mt. Diablo Post 246, Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley, Pearl Harbor Survivors, Marine Corps League Detachment 942 and the Blue Star Moms Bay Area Chapter. The church is located at 222 W. El Pintado Road in Danville.

In conjunction with Veterans Day, VFW Post 75 is displaying a collection of military memorabilia and history at the Veterans Hall, 300 Hartz Ave. Veterans are welcome to loan their items to the three-day exhibit, which will be open to the public 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Nov. 11-13. This will also be a chance for people to talk to veterans about their military experiences. For more information, call Tony Carnemolla at 820-5750.
