Hospice’s Center for Grief and Loss is once again offering the Footsteps support group for children ages 7 through 18 who have experienced the death of a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend. It will run Feb. 29-April 4.

“Footsteps is an expressive arts program designed to assist children and their caregivers to navigate through the process of grief,” said Lee Ann Morgan, bereavement program manager for the Center for Grief and Loss.

During the program, children meet in one room and their parents or guardians meet in another room. They follow the same agenda and complete the same art projects and hear the same stories.

“For the first time since my husband died last fall, my daughter realized that she wasn’t alone,” said a mother who attended the last session. “She was comforted by the knowledge that there were other children experiencing the same sad, lonely feelings that she was experiencing.”

The Footsteps program is made possible by a grant from the Children’s Support League of the East Bay. For more information, call 887-5678. Preregistration is required and there is a fee.
