Ken Tappin

Ken Tappin passed away April 2 at the age of 41. A native of California, he was raised in Vacaville and lived in Danville for the past eight years.

He graduated from Vacaville High school in 1983 and from UC Davis with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1987. He was a partner at Carlson Barbee & Gibson Inc. of San Ramon. He was also a talented athlete and played football and baseball for UC Davis.

He coached Little League and youth basketball in both Vacaville and Danville and was most recently baseball manager for the 14-year-old Danville Hoots. He also enjoyed playing basketball and golf, good cabernet wines and dinners out with his wife. Most of all, he loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sharon Jenkins Tappin; three sons, Alec, 19, Stefen, 17, and Jordan, 13; his mother Donna Robinson; and his sister Jennifer Wyatt. A memorial service was held last week.

An annual award and scholarship has been set up at San Ramon Valley High School in his memory, to be presented during Senior Awards Night to the most deserving student who demonstrates athletic ability, good sportsmanship and other key characteristics Ken exhibited in his own life.
