Four 15-year-old males were arrested in the predawn Friday, Aug. 11, after they went “garaging” in the Hartford Road area of Danville, police reported.
“They were spending the night at a friend’s house and got bored and decided to roam around the neighborhood,” said Sgt. Troy Craig of the Danville Police Department.
He said they entered garages and cars that were open, taking anything they found of interest, from alcohol to a laptop.
“It’s basically a crime of opportunity,” Craig said. “The parents were home.”
One of the neighbors called the police at 3:50 a.m. and described suspicious circumstances, that people were seen running into their yard, according to the police report.
“Officers responded, set up a perimeter, and the officers initiated foot pursuit,” said Craig.
All four juveniles were apprehended and cited to their parents, Craig said. The report will be send to the District Attorney’s Office for evaluation.
“What kids don’t understand is it might seem like fun and games but when they go onto residents’ property, they don’t know what will happen,” noted Craig. “The kids were thinking they were having fun and it went bad on them.”
This also points out the importance of keeping cars and garage doors locked at night, he said.
