The U.S. Department of Education recently named Stone Valley Middle School as a 2006 No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon School, along with California High School and Iron Horse Middle School in the district. Schools apply for the program and must be nominated by their respective state; choice is based on being academically superior or demonstrated dramatic gains in student achievement. Only 31 public schools in California earned the recognition and only four in Contra Costa County. Representatives from each school will travel to Washington, D.C., in November to participate in Blue Ribbon ceremonies.
