Roberta Edith Seabury
Roberta Edith Seabury, 64, died peacefully in her home in Diablo on Oct. 10.
She was born in Boise, Idaho, on Aug. 18, 1942. She and her husband Tom were married in 1962 and moved to Alamo in 1964. While she was raising three children, she attended Cal State Hayward majoring in communications. She had a column for the Valley Pioneer, in which she wrote touching stories about the horses, goats, chicken, dogs, cats and others on her “farm” in Diablo. She had joined the Girl Scouts when she was young and was active in her children’s troops also. She was also involved with the Danville Junior Horsemen Association, serving as adult adviser in the 1980s.
She played the viola and was a charter member and on the Board of Directors for Diablo Symphony. She served on the Danville Arts Commission during the 1990s and was appointed to the Arts and Culture Commission (AC5) in June 1999. She worked on the development of the county’s first cultural plan, and was the music and arts critic for the San Ramon Valley Times. She was a director of the Eugene O’Neill Foundation through August 2006.
She served on the Contra Costa County Historic Preservation Committee and helped form the Diablo Preservation Society. Through its efforts, Diablo became a Historic District. Her Diablo home since 1973 is a preservation trust home with a protected grove of Heritage Oaks.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas William Seabury; children Thomas David Seabury of Walnut Creek, Elizabeth Seabury-Utic of San Jose and Annette Seabury-Day of Brentwood; and four grandchildren, Thomas Quinn and Kaya Day, and Robert Thomas and Maria Seabury.
Services are being held at 1 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 20, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3201 Camino Tassajara in Danville. The family suggested donations in her memory to Hope Hospice, or AC5 Arts Trust, 1236 Escobar St., Martinez 94553).
