Police arrested a man in his 20s for hitting a peace officer late Wednesday night before Thanksgiving.
Danville resident Tyler Schroder, 21, was arrested for battery after he hit Officer Ian Hebert downtown on Hartz Ave. at 1 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 23. It appears that alcohol may have influenced Schroder’s behavior, said Danville police Sgt. Troy Craig.
Schroder and another man were having a pushing match and were both spinning around in a circle, said Craig. When Hebert interceded, Schroder punched his upper right shoulder with his fist.
Hebert subdued Schroder quickly by taking him to the ground and handcuffing him, Craig said. Police later transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Craig said when large crowds gather, situations similar to the fighting incident are likely to develop.
“You never know what people will do in the heat of the moment,” Craig said. -Jordan M. Doronila
