Andrew S. Yuen

Andrew S. Yuen, a resident of Danville, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 23.

He was born Dec. 4, 1911, and raised in Canton, China. He came to the United States and obtained his bachelors of Architectural Engineering from Chicago Technical College in 1935 and returned to China to work for the Public Works Department of Canton. After the Japanese invasion in 1939, he returned to America and obtained his masters of Architecture and Allied Arts degree from NYU in 1941. He remained in the U.S., living in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, Maryland, Connecticut and California, settling in Danville 20 years ago.

As a member of the American Institute of Architects, he designed numerous projects in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Although he almost lived to be 95, he was young at heart, enjoyed life and never considered himself to be “retired.” He was always working on a project at his drafting table in his home office and also enjoyed painting, gardening and traveling.

He was preceded in death by Evelyn Yuen, his wife of more than 60 years. He is survived by his sister, and many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was laid to rest at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette. Donations in his memory may be made to Children’s Hospital Foundation, 747 52nd St., Oakland 94609.
