Who was your mentor? What did he or she teach you?

My grandma. She just taught me to live life in the moment and to relax and enjoy things that come your way in life. To me, she was a mentor and a spirit of peace and joy and happiness.

My dad. He’s an entrepreneur also and he’s given me a great sense of confidence and belief in myself. He made me a risk taker. That can be good or bad in life when you are younger. But in my maturity, it has helped me a great deal to be a risk taker, and I hope to pass it on to my children.

I didn’t have a mentor. I had to learn things through trial and error, through the school of hard knocks. That’s the best school if you are receptive to learning. And I’m still learning.

It was my parents, definitely, by example. I learned all of my values from them, watching how they lived. I knew that was how I wanted to be; they were good role models – of fairness, integrity and honesty.

I would have to say Corrie ten Boom, the author of “The Hiding Place.” (Ten Boom was a Dutch Christian Holocaust survivor who helped many Jews escape the Nazis.) What I love is her quote: “There’s not a pit so deep that God is not deeper still.” It has kept me going a lot of times, in every area of my life.
