4-H corrections

Dear Editor:

I am a member of the Tassajara 4-H club, and I am going to be a junior at Monte Vista. I was delighted to see your article about 4-H in Diablo Views in the July 6 issue, but there were a few things that were slightly amiss.

While there are some families in the Tassajara Valley Club that are local, many of the people in the Danville/Alamo/San Ramon/Walnut Creek area are in Tassajara 4-H. There are about 70 families in our club, which meets monthly at the Danville Grange.

Also, our club does not attend the Contra Costa Fair since it is during the school year. Instead, the eight or nine clubs in our county attend Youth Fair, which focuses on the youth and animals without the midway. Youth Fair was last week at the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, and our livestock auction was that weekend. I myself have a market lamb; he is kept with four other lambs on some property on Stone Valley Road, next to the fire station. I also have shown horses, dogs and goats. My brother shows pigs. Besides livestock, our club has many other projects, about 15-20 total.

At any rate, I was very pleased to see an article about 4-H in the paper, as it is truly a fun experience that I have enjoyed being a part of for six years. Thank you for taking an interest in it.

Dana Kilian, Tassajara 4-H
