Ten women. Ten stories. “Talking With,” a play by the Pulitzer-nominated Jane Martin, will showcase 10 diverse and eccentric characters through “beautifully crafted” monologues.
The women confront pivotal moments in their different but very connected lives.
From a washed up rodeo cowgirl to a snake handler, a baton twirler to a young daughter, the women address universal issues like loneliness, loss of confidence, and struggles with faith.
“Each of these characters display a raw honesty,” says co-director Chris Chapman, who is directing the play with his wife Sue Trigg.
The performance – Danville Role Players Ensemble Theater’s first Black Box season performance – suggests that even in this gigantic universe, our individual lives have meaning. Black Box theater focuses on provocative productions in intimate settings.
The funny and poignant “snapshots” of these character’s lives use minimal set and lighting to create a powerful night of theater. And common humanity shines as the characters insist each of their lives matters in its own way, directors say.
The show will run Sept. 7-8 and 14-15 at 8 p.m. in the Danville Town Meeting Hall and tickets are $10.
