Monte Vista High School’s choir teacher Bruce Koliha has won the recognition of his peers from the California Music Educators Association (CMEA). Koliha was awarded the Pearson Scott Foresman/Silver Burdett Choral Educator Award to honor his Excellence in Choral Education and Performance for the 2007-2008 school year.

The award is given to a music educator who is shaping the music profession in meaningful ways; impacts not only his students but fellow music educators; uses music so effectively in the classroom that others are in awe of him; and effectively utilizes the music of diverse cultures in teaching.

Koliha attended a dinner and awards night March 14 at the CMEA State Convention in Sacramento to receive the award, his second. In the 2003-2004 school year he was the first ever recipient to win the California Association for Music Education’s Bay Area Section Outstanding Choral Educator.
