A Walnut Creek man who followed a child into a library restroom in 2024 and sexually assaulted the minor was sentenced Thursday to more than six years in prison.
Marc Alexander Simon, 28, pleaded guilty to felony charges of sexual abuse of a minor and aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material.
Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Charles Burch sentenced Simon to six years and eight months in prison. Simon will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
On April 11, 2024, Simon followed a minor into a restroom at the Walnut Creek Library and sexually abused the child.
The child reported the assault to an adult, who contacted police.
Detectives used security cameras to quickly identify Simon’s vehicle as he left the scene. Police tracked him to another location in Walnut Creek, where he was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
Officers seized an iPhone that contained hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse.
Simon has been in jail since his arrest and will begin to serve his sentence immediately.
“The swift investigative work by Walnut Creek Police and our Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was crucial in holding the defendant accountable,” Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton said in a statement. “This case demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting children in our communities from those who prey on them.”
