In recognition of exemplary performance over the past year, San Ramon Regional Medical Center has named nurse Sumy Mathews as the Employee of the Year for 2020.

A registered nurse on the definitive observation unit at San Ramon Regional, Mathews has worked at the hospital for nine years and was recognized as a “Pillars of Excellence” at the hospital back in March — Pillars of Excellence is a monthly program where the hospital recognizes the work of an exceptional individual.
“Sumy represents the best of who we are as an organization. She’s always smiling, even in the toughest of situations,” said Ann Lucena, CEO of San Ramon Regional. “Sumy volunteers for challenging assignments and has earned the respect of her colleagues because of her skills, experience and compassion. We are truly lucky to have her on our team.”
Described by her colleagues as someone who brings a positive, can-do attitude to work every single day, Mathews has a calming presence and truly cares for her patients, according to hospital officials. This outgoing and upbeat attitude has made staff say the most commonly used word to describe Mathews is “kind.”
“I can’t imagine a more deserving candidate for this award,” said Aimee Campos, San Ramon Regional’s director of inpatient services. “She lights up everyone around her. She makes us all better nurses and her patients are so blessed to have her taking care of them.”
“Sumy is a wonderful and beautiful person, inside and out. She’s very dedicated to her job. She’s very compassionate and empathetic. She’s a patient advocate. I could go on and on about her,” nursing supervisor Nicole Martindill added.

Congratulations to Nurse Mathews to be recognized by her peers and to our entire dedicated SRV medical community.
