The Amador Valley boys’ swimming team ended a four-year title run by De La Salle, taking the team title during the East Bay Athletic League meet at Dougherty Valley last weekend.

The whole meet came down to the final event – the 400 freestyle relay. The Amador quartet of Oryan Liu, Dylan Li, Kealan Tupper and Cade Vieler, with Vieler swimming the anchor leg, took the win and the title topping the Spartans by two seconds.

To kick off the day, the 200-medley team of Vieler, Ryan Wang, Liu and Tupper to tie De La Salle for first as both teams were clocked in 1:31.91.

Vieler, a junior that has committed to Princeton, also took the 100 free (45.48) and the 100 backstroke (48.89) to lead the way.

Tupper added a title in the 200 individual medley with a time 1:50.67.

On the girls’ side, Amador Valley freshman Alexis Thompson with the time of 1:02.88, a time that gave her a Junior National cut and a spot in the top 30 in the country for her age.

Lillyana Caples, a senior committed to Princeton, was fifth in the loaded 200 free, and senior Rylee Hutchinson (USC commit) was fifth in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.

A highlight for Foothill on the girls’ side was Mckinley Scobie winning the 100 free by over three seconds with a 49.68, and the 100 fly by over two seconds with a 53.40.

It is important to remember that most of the top swimmers are big club swimmers and are training right through the EBAL season leading up to a big summer club season.

Expect the top swimmers to be at their best as the post season goes on. The EBAL is so loaded in swimming that several swimmers from throughout the EBAL will be influential in the CIF State meet in two weeks in Clovis.

There’s no place like home for the Falcons as they bounced back from a loss earlier in the week to San Ramon Valley with a 4-3 win.

Earlier in the week the Wolves got the best of Foothill by a 5-0 final.

Last Friday, George Schmitt made a splash while hitting and pitching for Foothill. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schmitt hasn’t given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter’s box, going 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Foothill got a great performance from Ryan Cooney on the hill as well, as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.

Hudson Flora was strong at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Matteo Minnite, who went 3-for-4 with one run scored, one double and one RBI.

Foothill finished the game with a batting average of .433, and the team is 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The Falcons have been playing well recently, winning three of their last four games.
