SRVUSD students win gold in ‘Olympics of tap dance’
Two students at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District are among the gold medal winners in this year’s World Tap Dance Championships, also known as the “Olympics of tap dance” according to an announcement from the district.
Braelyn Schaffer and Presley Nava returned victorious from their trip to the Czech Republic for the competition from Oct. 23 to Oct. 27, with the district announcing their accomplishments on Wednesday.
“Braelyn and Presley exemplify creativity, teamwork and dedication – core attributes of our Learner Profile,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in this week’s announcement. “Their success on the world stage is a testament to their talent and hard work, and our community is incredibly proud to have them represent SRVUSD and the United States with such excellence.”
In addition to the win serving as a milestone in their tap-dancing careers, it is a testament to their longtime friendship, according to Schaffer.
“Winning the gold at Worlds was a dream come true,” Schaffer said in the district’s announcement this week. “Standing on the podium together as the National Anthem played, representing the USA in the Parade of Nations- it was a fairy tale moment. We’re so grateful to our teachers and SRVUSD for supporting us on this journey.”
A video of the two local students’ winning performance, in which they competed in a team of six, is available here.
