A Pleasanton police officer and a civilian driver were injured when a patrol vehicle and another car collided near downtown Saturday afternoon, according to a department spokesperson.

The situation unfolded at about 3:30 p.m. at Division and Fair streets. “A Pleasanton Police patrol unit was responding with lights and sirens activated to an emergency call for service when they were involved in a traffic collision at the intersection,” Lt. Nicholas Albert told the Pleasanton Weekly.

The officer and the other driver were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to Albert.

The circumstances of the traffic collision are being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

The crash and resulting investigation led to law enforcement closing the intersection and detouring motorists around the area Saturday afternoon, according to a Nixle alert from the Pleasanton Police Department.
