The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation and sponsors for this year’s Run for Education are seeking to spread the word this month about the foundation’s major annual fundraiser in the weeks ahead.
The event Oct. 11 marks Northern California’s largest run to benefit education according to organizers, as well as being the foundation’s major annual fundraiser generating proceeds to support the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.
This year is set to see the shorter runs and other activities shift to Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon’s Bishop Ranch neighborhood, with the 10K race still set for the same starting point at Charlotte Wood Middle School in Danville but with a different course than last year.
“The Run for Education is one of my favorite traditions in our district,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in a press release this month.
“Each year, it brings our students, staff, families, and neighbors together to celebrate the incredible energy of the San Ramon Valley,” he continued. “Beyond the fun of race day, every step taken directly benefits our schools. We are immensely grateful to SRVEF, the sponsors, and the dedicated volunteers who make this support possible year after year.”
Proceeds from past runs have gone toward maker spaces in elementary schools, science kits, teaching grants, musical instruments, art supplies and school libraries according to SRVEF organizers.
“I run for fun, fitness, and friendship,” SRVUSD educator and SRVEF Board Member Carolyn Costamagna said in this month’s press release. “The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation Run for Education is a wonderful community event that embodies all three.”
In addition to the new course and location, organizers are set to offer “new ways for schools and community groups to participate” this year, with a crowd of 5,000 runners, volunteers, vendors, and other attendees expected.
