The town of Danville is set to undertake the final steps in formalizing changes to its lighting and landscaping assessment district that were approved by residents last year.

The changes approved by voters last spring marked the first time in 20 years that the town had increased its fee structure for lighting and landscaping services, leading to a rare imbalance for a town that prides itself in fiscal management in its budget for the special district.

As part of the process of updating the fee schedule, residents also approved the establishment of a new LLAD and the dissolution of the existing district.

“With approval of the new district, the District Engineer informed the County Assessor that going forward only LLAD No. 2025-1 would levy assessments,” city attorney Robert Ewing wrote in a staff report for the upcoming meeting. “While LLAD No. 1983-1 is inactive, it is appropriate to dissolve it to remove any potential confusion in future years.”

The Danville Town Council is set to vote on a resolution of intent to dissolve the district as an item of routine business on the consent calendar at its upcoming meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday (April 7). The agenda is available here.

Following the upcoming meeting, the council is poised for a final vote on dissolving the old LLAD at its April 21 meeting.
