Election season is underway once again in the San Ramon Valley, with the list of candidates set to appear on the upcoming ballot finalized as of this week.
While the deadline for most races, in which incumbents are seeking to defend their seats, was last week, Wednesday marked the extended deadline for those without incumbents running, including one school board seat and one Danville Town Council seat.
No additional candidates for those seats had filed this week, and the races are now finalized.
Amanda Butland is the only candidate running for the SRVUSD Area 1 seat being vacated by Jesse vanZee at the end of the year, with Area 4 Trustee Susanna Ordway also running unopposed. That makes the Area 5 seat that incumbent Rachel Hurd is seeking to defend amid a challenge from newcomer Joel Woods the only competitive race in the district this year.
Former county clerk-recorder candidate Pratima Sonavne’s late entrance into the Danville council race last week makes it a competitive one, following campaign announcements from incumbent Robert Storer and former San Ramon police chief Denton Carlson earlier in the season.
Two new candidates are set to appear on San Ramon Valley ballots in November after qualifying this week. The competition for Dublin San Ramon Services District Division 2 consists of newcomers Kismat Kathrani – who ran unsuccessfully for county assessor in this year’s primary, and is the brother of San Ramon City Council candidate and former mayoral and assembly candidate Chirag Kathrani – and Donald Downey.
The position represents southwestern San Ramon. No other candidates were running for the seat as of this week.
While the deadline was also extended for the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors, with president Donald Parker not seeking reelection, no additional candidates had emerged as of this week. Vice President Ryan Crean is seeking another term in the seat, with former San Ramon mayor Bill Clarkson poised to fill the vacancy being left by Parker.
