A witness reporting three people climbing a telephone pole with a saw led to a heavy police response and one arrest related to communication wire theft and damage in eastern Danville on Thursday night.
Danville police said the call came in to dispatch at about 8:05 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 13), and the three people fled as soon as officers arrived at the scene.
One man – identified as a 32-year-old transient – was arrested, but two other suspects escaped into a heavily wooded creek area and eluded law enforcement despite an extensive search of the area, according to the Danville Police Department.
“Officers found a section of communications line, approximately 100 feet long, on the ground near the pole they had climbed. Several sections of cut wire were in the suspect’s vehicle,” police said.
The arrestee was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of damaging a power line, grand theft, conspiracy and probation violation, police said.
