Student art shows

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is seeking to highlight the talents of young artists in the district with a series of student art shows that kicked off following the board of education’s recognition of March as Arts Education Month.

“Art is about nurturing imagination, fostering creativity and providing students with the opportunity to express themselves in ways words cannot,” said Chavonta Edington, visual and performing arts teacher on special assignment and one of the organizers for the shows.

Separate shows for elementary, middle and high school students are running through April 28, with the elementary show at the San Ramon Library, the middle school show at Dougherty Station Community Arts Center, and the high school show at San Ramon City Hall.

“We are immensely proud of the creativity and talent displayed by our students, and we are committed to providing our students with opportunities for exploration and development of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) during the regular school day and as extracurricular activities,” SRVUSD Superintendent John Malloy said. “We thank our VAPA educators for inspiring a passion for the arts in our students.”

Child Safety Day

The Exchange Club of the San Ramon Valley is hosting its annual Child Safety Day this weekend, aimed at boosting awareness of child abuse and providing resources to parents.

In addition to resources and safety tips for parents, the event will feature attractions for children – two petting zoos, with one for domestic animals and one for reptiles – as well as tours of SRVFPD fire engines.

Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday (April 20) at the North Patio of Lunardi’s Market at 345 Railroad Ave.

EarthFest

Organizers with Interfaith San Ramon Valley and a range of partnering groups are preparing for the organization’s second-ever Earth Day Festival this weekend in collaboration with the Town of Danville.

“As I-SRV plans this year’s EarthFest, we seek to hold the intention of gratitude and caring relationship with the Earth, all peoples, and all expressions of life,” Interfaith San Ramon Valley organizers said.

This year’s event aims to continue channeling the energy of the community “to more responsibly steward our sacred planet,” according to event organizers in an announcement from the Town of Danville.

Interfaith EarthFest is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 21) at 3201 Camino Tassajara in Danville. More information is available here.
