Imagineering program

The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s summer imagineering program is now accepting applications from students interested in pursuing their interests in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).

This year’s program taught by SRVUSD teachers from June 16 to July 18 includes classes on baking, rocketry, chemistry of suds, smells, and bubbles, and brushstrokes, with offering for sixth through 12th graders consisting of classes on CPR and first aid, finance and economic literacy, biotech, and global food.

“Our goal is to spark a love of STEAM learning by offering creative and immersive experiences,” SRVEF Board President Gary Alpert said in an announcement Thursday. “From coding and chemistry to engineering and the arts, there’s something for every young innovator.”

Each week-long class is aimed at providing hands-on experiences for students to explore their interests in STEAM fields, with proceeds going towards the support of district-wide initiatives at SRVUSD.

“These enrichment opportunities empower our students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and continue their learning in meaningful ways,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in this week’s announcement.

“Acorns of the Old Oak” project

The Town of Danville is seeking artists to apply for a new public art project in town aimed at highlighting the historic Old Oak Tree that has come to be part of Danville’s official logo.

The town’s first-ever permanent art project is set to consist of small, three dimensional bronze acorn sculptures that will be installed at town facilities and historic sites, serving as “a lasting tribute to Danville’s heritage and community spirit” according to organizers.

Applications are open to artists from Danville as well as throughout the greater Bay Area region, with the town seeking applicants who have experience successfully completing a publicly funded art project within time and financial constraints.

The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend for the design of a mold of an acorn, with the town covering the costs of the fabrication and installation of the final products.

The call for artists is open through April 4. More information is available here.
