The bicyclist who was fatally struck by a car in Alamo last week has been identified as 45-year-old Walnut Creek resident Allison Merkle, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Division.

Merkle was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived after being dispatched to the scene on Livorna Road at the Interstate 680 underpass on Oct. 9 at 11:12 a.m., authorities said.

According to the initial details announced by California Highway Patrol that day, Merkle was bicycling westbound on Livorna Road when she was struck by a black Toyota bZ3X when the driver pulled onto the roadway from the shoulder he had previously been parked on. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

Merkle was a senior client adviser at the San Francisco-based insurance broking and risk management company Marsh, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, she worked in various roles at the Walnut Creek based commercial property insurance company FM Global for almost 20 years.
